Dentures are required by far more people than you might think. Our Victoria dentists explain the two types of dentures available at InHarmony Dental Care, as well as why you might need them and how they can help you improve your oral health.
What are dentures?
Our dentists can create these artificial teeth and gums, which fit your mouth specifically to replace natural teeth that have been lost or removed. Dentures match your existing teeth and are custom-designed to fit your mouth.
How do I know if I need dentures?
Dentures are recommended more often than you think, even if you've previously thought of them as options for only certain kinds of patients or seniors.
You might never need dentures if you practise excellent oral hygiene and visit your dentist for regular checkups. Dentures, on the other hand, might be in your future if you have a history of dental problems and issues with your teeth.
Why would my dentist recommend dentures?
It's usually necessary to replace any missing teeth to maintain your oral health. Your dentist can assist you in deciding between partial and full dentures if you are missing one, a few, or all of your teeth.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are used to replace more than one or a few missing teeth. These are typically constructed from a combination of metal and acrylic.
Full Dentures
Are you missing all of your teeth in your top or bottom jaw? We can replace them with full dentures, which might be combined with implants so that they fit your mouth more securely.
How should I care for my dentures?
Similar to natural teeth, plaque and tartar can accumulate on your dentures, leading to bad breath, stains and discolouration, and issues with your gums. To avoid these and keep plaque from spreading from your dentures to your natural teeth and gums, you'll need to clean your dentures every day.
